Market in a nutshell
- Fallout of the US bail package led the indices to open deep in the red. However, a strong rebound was witnessed from lower levels pushing the bourses into the green zone. Markets pared their mid-session gains in the final hour of trade on account of profit booking. After an extremely volatile session, BSE Sensex finally closed at 12,860 (up 265 points), while Nifty ended the day at 3,921 (up 71 points).
- Nifty October futures were trading at a premium of around 20-22 points to spot for the major part of the session but narrowed to around 7-10 points towards the end.
- BSE Bankex Index climbed around 5% to 6,478 with ICICI Bank mounting 8.5% to INR 535. BSE Capital Goods Index rose 3% to 10,581 with BHEL rising 5% to INR 1586.
- Market breadth was positive with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 1.2:1. Ansal Infra rose 13% to INR 87, while Air Deccan was up 10% to INR 60.
- Cash volumes were at INR 199,738 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 169,079 mn. F&O volumes were at INR 565,496 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 636,641 mn.
Eye Catchers
- Idea surged 9% to INR 77 with volumes of 11,915,485 (up 150%).
Market News
- Rupee depreciated to trade at INR 47.00 against the dollar.
- Nymex crude fell to trade at $97.7/bbl. Base metals were trading on a weak note with lead down 7%.

Market in a nutshell
- Key benchmark indices continued their southward journey in the opening trades today. Uncertainty on the US bailout package and continued instability in the global banking sector led to intense selling across all sectors. After hitting the 18-month low, BSE Sensex finally closed at 12,595 (down 507 points), while Nifty ended the day at 3,850 (down 135 points).
- Nifty October futures were trading at a premium of around 17-20 points to spot in the beginning of the session but contracted to around 5-8 points towards the end of the session.
- BSE Bankex Index plunged around 6% to 6,175 with ICICI Bank falling 12% to INR 493. BSE IT Index fell 5.45% to 3,057 with Aptech dropping 13% to INR 129.
- Market breadth was negative with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 1:9. HDIL plummeted 14.15% to INR 165, while Suzlon was down 12% to INR 153.50.
- Cash volumes were at INR 177,128 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 166,465 mn. F&O volumes were at INR 559,057 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 641,206 mn.
Eye Catchers
- Karnataka Bank crashed 12% to INR 121 with volumes of 2,018,178 (up 3495%).
Market News
- Rupee depreciated to trade at INR 46.96 against the dollar, as dollar purchases were pushed up by oil refiners.
- Nymex crude fell to trade at $103.5/bbl. Base metals were trading on a weak note.

Market in a nutshell
- Poor global cues led to weak opening of the indices. Selling pressure was witnessed across the board with banking and realty sectors being the worst hit. Markets continued its southward journey with Sensex finally closing at 13,102 (down 445 points), while Nifty ended the day at 3,985 (down 126 points).
- Nifty October futures were trading at a premium of around 17-20 points to spot for the major part but narrowed to around 14 points towards the end of the session.
- BSE Realty Index declined around 6.5% to 3,597 with Akruti City falling 17% to INR 799. BSE Metal Index fell 5% to 9,502 with Gujarat NRE Coke losing 9.5% to INR 59.
- Market breadth was negative with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 1:8. Unitech crashed 9.5% to INR 111, while LITL was down 11% to INR 184.
- Cash volumes were at INR 153,505 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 180,806 mn. F&O volumes were at INR 442,971 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 700,556 mn.

- Aban plunged 10% to INR 2,103 with volumes of 490,903 (up 117%).
Market News
- Rupee depreciated to trade at INR 46.56 against the dollar, due to month-end dollar demand.
- Nymex crude rose to trade at $105.38/bbl. Base metals were trading on a mixed note.

Market in a nutshell
- Markets opened with uncertainty, hovering around yesterday’s close and then dipped into the red due to selling pressure which persisted throughout the day. The final hour saw some recovery with Sensex finally closing at 13,457 (down 145 points), while Nifty ended the day at 4,111 (down 51 points).
- Nifty October futures were trading at a premium of around 30-40 points to spot for the major part of the session.
- The September series expiry saw lower than average rollovers with Nifty rollovers at 60% and market wide at 76%. The October series starts with a very low base Nifty OI of INR 111 bn.
- BSE IT and Realty Indices declined around 2% each to 3,348 and 3,840 respectively. Wipro fell 5% to INR 353, while India Bulls Real Estate lost 5% to INR 198.
- Market breadth was negative with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 2:5. Suzlon plunged 7% to INR 182, while National Aluminum was down 6% to INR 396.
- Cash volumes were at INR 203,816 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 186,970 mn. F&O volumes were at INR 826,977 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 683,350 mn.
Eye Catchers
- India Cements climbed 6% to INR 137 with volumes of 2,612,146 (up 280%).
- Pantaloon dipped 6% to INR 275 with volumes of 1,194,361 (up 900%).
