Market in a nutshell
- Unexpected rise in inflation and weak global markets dented the market mood with the indices paring off part of its last week’s gains. Persistent selling across the sectors led to further fall with software and banking sector bearing the major brunt. The Sensex finally closing at 15,644 (down 727 points) while Nifty closed at 4,735 (down 208 points).
- BSE Bankex lost 5.9% to 7,718 with Yes Bank and ICICI Bank lost over 7% each to INR 169 and INR 770 respectively. IT Index lost 5.6% with Wipro and Rolta losing over 6% each to INR 425 and INR 262 respectively.
- Nifty April Futures were trading at a premium of 5-6 points to spot for major part of the session.
- Market breadth was negative with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 0.6:1. Reliance Capital lost 12% to INR 1229, while Adlabs was down 10% to INR 614. Orchid Chemicals gained 12% to INR 161.
- Cash volumes were at INR 204,290 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 195,589 mn. F&O volumes were at INR 472,008 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 560,615 mn.
Eye Catchers
- Cummins was up 6% to INR 322 with volumes of 690,075 (up 800%).
Market News
- Rupee weakened to INR 40.11 a dollar owing to fall in equity markets.
- Nymex crude was trading at $ 105.03/bbl. Base metals were trading on a weak note.

Market in a nutshell
- Markets opened on a cautious note and remained range-bound during morning trades. However, afternoon trades saw a spurt of buying activity which led the indices to surge with Sensex finally closing at 16,371 (up 356 points) while Nifty closed at 4,942 (up 112 points).
- BSE Metal Index gained 6% to 14,654, with Jindal Steel up 16% to INR 2,219. BSE Capital Goods Index advanced 5.5% to 14,455, with Suzlon gaining 13% to INR 270.
- Nifty April Futures were trading at a premium of 15-20 points to spot for major part of the session.
- Market breadth was extremely positive with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 9:1. HDIL soared 19% to INR 721, while Tulip was down 10% to INR 860.
- Cash volumes were at INR 218,554 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 193,534 mn. F&O volumes were at INR 490,870 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 555,171 mn.

- Amtek Auto was up 8% to INR 268 with volumes of 2,087,096 (up 480%).
Market News
- Rupee was trading at INR 39.91 against the dollar.
- Nymex crude was steady trading at $ 107.2/bbl. Base metals were trading on a strong note, with copper up 4%.
- The WPI based annual rate of inflation was at a yearly high at 6.68% for the week wended March 15 over 5.92% in the previous week.

Market in a nutshell
- Following global peers, domestic bourses opened deep in the red and remained weak throughout the day. Late afternoon trades saw muted recovery from the low levels leading the Sensex to close at 16,016 (down 71 points), while Nifty closed at 4,830 (up 2 points).
- BSE FMCG Index gained 2% to 2,280, with Hindustan Unilever up 4% to INR 244. BSE IT Index declined 3% to 3,580, with Mphasis down 6.5% to INR 182.
- The March series contracts saw weaker Nifty rollovers as compared to the average primarily due to lack of aggression by short rollers. This also caused the Nifty roll cost to move into a premium of nearly 30 points during the day.
- Nifty April Futures were trading at a premium of 15-20 points to spot for major part of the session.
- Market breadth was positive with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 1.2:1.Sasken advanced 10% to INR 102, while Amtek was down 8% to INR 248.
- Cash volumes were at INR 218,554 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 194,108 mn. F&O volumes were high at INR 643,089 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 521,618 mn.
Eye Catchers
- Maharashtra Seamless was up 4.5% to INR 296 with volumes of 1,719,197 (up 1200%).
- Strides Arcolab fell 7% to INR 146 with volumes of 159,921 (up 410%).

- Rupee was steady trading at INR 40.12 against the dollar.
- Nymex crude rose to trade at $ 107.04/bbl. Base metals were trading on a strong note, with lead up 2%.

Market in a nutshell
- Local bourses opened on a cautious note and exhibited range bound movement through the day. It was a volatile session as the indices oscillated on either side of yesterday’s close with Sensex finally closing at 16,087 (down 131 points) while Nifty closed at 4,828 (down 49 points).
- BSE Mid-cap and Small-cap Indices were both up around 2% to 6,271 and 7,439 respectively.
- BSE Consumer Durable Index advanced 1.5% to 3,831, with Titan up 3% to INR 1,058. BSE Metal Index gained 1% to 13,745, with Jindal Stainless up 4% to INR 145.
- As the expiry comes close the rollover activity has picked up. Marketwide rollovers stood at 57% with the average roll cost (cost to long rollers) hovering around 50 bps. Nifty rollover was at 51%. The Nifty April futures are trading at a premium of 10-12 points to the March futures, indicating lack of aggression from the short rollers. Even the Nifty rollovers of 51% are less as compared to the average roll over of 60% on D-1 of expiry.
- Nifty March Futures were trading at a premium of 10 points to spot for major part of the session, which increased to 15 points during the last hour.
- Market breadth was positive with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 2:1. Yes Bank advanced 13% to INR 194, while India Infoline was up 9% to INR 862 respectively.
- Cash volumes were at INR 186,169 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 194,172 mn. F&O volumes were high at INR 576,288 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 486,477 mn.
Eye Catchers
- Jindal Stainless was up 4% to INR 145 with volumes of 1,829,351 (up 700%).
- Purvankara surged 22% to INR 224 with volumes of 643,910 (up 300%).

- Rupee was steady trading at INR 40.14 against the dollar.
- Nymex crude rose to trade at $ 102.55/bbl. Base metals were trading on a strong note, with copper up 3%.

Market in a nutshell
- Markets witnessed a stellar session, opening on an extremely strong note and sustaining the bullish trend throughout the day. The indices advanced steadily as buying was witnessed across the board. Sensex finally closed at 16,217 (up 928 points) while Nifty closed at 4,878 (up 268 points).
- BSE Mid-cap Index was up 6% to 6,175, while BSE Small-cap Index advanced 5% to 7,285.
- BSE Realty Index was the major gainer surging 9.5% to 7,451, with HDIL soaring 14% to INR 581. BSE Bankex rallied 8% to 8,371, with ICICI up 9% to INR 880.
- Nifty March Futures were trading at a premium of 15 points to spot for major part of the session.
- Market breadth was extremely strong with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 7:1. Kotak and Essar Oil advanced 13% to INR 627 and INR 212 respectively.
- Cash volumes were at INR 210,620 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 191,054 mn. F&O volumes were high at INR 666,276 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 433,500 mn.

- Axis Bank was up 9% to INR 791 with volumes of 9,477,594 (up 530%).
- Chambal Fertlisers rallied 15% to INR 50 with volumes of 10,085,739 (up 240%).
Market News
- Rupee strengthened to trade at INR 40.12 against the greenback, due to strong equity markets.
- Nymex crude was trading at $ 100.32/bbl. Base metals were trading on a weak note, with zinc down 6%.
- IVRCL Infrastructures & Projects bagged an order worth INR 788.5 mn from Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation for construction of a research complex.
