Market in a nutshell

• The markets opened lower owing to weak global cues and witnessed volatility during the initial two hours of trade barely managing to stay positive. The indices had a lackluster outing today with the heavyweights from the banking and cement sector aiding the indices but not enough to compensate for the selling pressure faced by the software majors. The Sensex finally closing at 16,784 (up 45 points) while Nifty closed at 5,049 (up 2 points).
• BSE Realty gained 3% to 7,906 with Ansal Infra being the major gainer up 9% to INR 164. Metal Index gained 2% to 15,529 with Ispat gaining close to 8% at INR 37. IT Index lost 4.3% to 3930 with TCS being the major dragger down 10.5% to INR 887.
• Nifty April Futures were trading at a premium of 3-4 points to spot for major part of the session.
• Market breadth remained positive with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 1.3:1. Ultratech and RNRL gained over 7% each to INR 827 and INR 118 respectively.
• Cash volumes were at INR 150,680 mn (NSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 135,019 mn. F&O volumes were at INR 516,440 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 394,873 mn.

Eye Catchers

• IFCI was up 16% to INR 59 with volumes of 202,502,148 (up 380%).
• Purvankara was up 6% to INR 278 with volumes of 76,574 (up 680%).

Market News

• Rupee was trading on a slightly weaker note at 39.95 a dollar.
• Nymex crude remained strong for another trading session trading $ 118/ bbl. Base metals were trading on a weak note with lead and zinc trading 2% down.
