- Despite negative cues from its global peers, markets opened on a positive note. Buying in index heavyweights led the markets to trade in the positive territory for major part of the session. Sensex finally closed at 13,692 (up 122 points), while Nifty ended the day at 4,161 (up 35 points).
- Nifty September Futures were trading at a premium of around 12-14 points to spot for the major part of the session.
- Rollovers remain weak with market wide rollovers at 56% as against 61% in the previous expiry with an average roll cost of 70 bps. Nifty rollovers also remain lacklustre with 47% positions getting rolled over as compared to 53% seen in the last expiry.
- BSE Metal Index soared 2.2% to 10,142, with Sterlite rising 8% to INR 488. BSE Bankex Index climbed 1.2% to 6,886 with HDFC Bank rising 4% to INR 1282.
- Market breadth was negative with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 1.2:1. Chambal fertilizers rose 6% to INR 63 while Wipro dropped 5% to INR 372
- Cash volumes were at INR 1,61,484 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 186,970mn. F&O volumes were at INR 670,517mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 683,350mn.

- Ansal Infra rose 9% to INR 89 with volumes of 1,107,829 (up 205%).
Market News
- Rupee depreciated to trade at INR 45.98 against the dollar, following weakness in the markets.
- Nymex crude rose to trade at $108.9.5/bbl. Base metals were trading on a weak note with zinc falling by 3.8%.
- L&T’s newly formed Buildings & Factories operating company bagged orders worth INR 50bn.
