 Market in a nutshell

• Mirroring global peers, bourses opened on a weak note. Rising crude prices and renewed recession concerns led to selling pressure with IT, Realty and Banking sectors leading the pack of losers. Sensex finally closed at 13,570 (down 425 points), while Nifty ended the day at 4,126 (down 97 points).
• Nifty September Futures were trading at a premium of around 15-20 points to spot for the major part of the session.
• BSE IT Index slumped 5% to 3,455, with Rolta falling 9.5% to INR 260. BSE Realty Index plunged 4.5% to 3,903 with Indiabulls Real Estate dropping 7% to INR 210.
• Market breadth was negative with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 1:4. Satyam fell 6.2% to INR 331 while Moserbaer dropped 8.5% to INR 122.25
• Cash volumes were at INR 149,464 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 190,858mn. F&O volumes were at INR 683,686mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 666,340mn.

Eye Catchers

• Ranbaxy fell 11% to INR 309 with volumes of 8,881,035 (up 495%).

Market News

• Rupee depreciated to trade at INR 45.75 against the dollar, following weakness in the markets.
• Nymex crude rose to trade at $107.5/bbl. Base metals were trading on a strong note with lead rising by 4.5%.
