Market in a nutshell
- Markets opened on an exuberant note but lost steam as the session progressed. The broader indices slowly pared the opening gains and ended the day marginally in the green. Sensex closed at 14,450 (up 49 points), while Nifty closed at 4,335 (up 7 points).
- Nifty August Futures were trading at a premium of around 3-5 points to spot for major part of the session.
- BSE Realty Index climbed 2% to 5,044, with India Bulls Real Estate gaining 7% to INR 302. BSE Bankex advanced 1% to 6,746, with Bank of Baroda up 4% to INR 264.
- Market breadth was almost neutral with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 9:10. Great Offshore gained 8% to INR 470, while Suzlon fell 4.5% to INR 217.
- Cash volumes were low at INR 107,502 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 131,464 mn. F&O volumes were at INR 459,791 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 436,024 mn.
Eye Catchers
- Indian Bank was up 8% to INR 124 with volumes of 3,641,299 (up 150%).
Market News
- Rupee depreciated to trade at INR 43.77 against the dollar.
- Nymex crude fell to trade at $115.48/bbl. Base metals were trading on a weak note with zinc and copper down 2.5%.
