Market in a nutshell
- Following global indices, markets opened on a buoyant note and remained at those high levels within a narrow range for a major part of the day. It continued its northward journey in the final hour of trade witnessing heaving buying across sectors. Sensex closed at 15,503 (up 336 points) while Nifty ended the day at 4,620 (up 90 points).
- Nifty August Futures were trading at a premium of around 10-15 points to spot for major part of the session.
- BSE Bankex climbed up 4% and Realty Index advanced around 1.5% to 7,395 and 13,099 respectively. Canara Bank gained 7% to INR 232, while Indiabulls Real Estate was up 13% to INR 358
- Market breadth was positive with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 2.2:1. HCC climbed 9% to INR 109, while Sterlite fell 2.5% to INR 624.
- Cash volumes were at INR 179,350 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 209474 mn. F&O volumes were at INR 396992 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 501220 mn.
Eye Catchers
- Nagarjuna Construction gained 8% to INR 142 with volumes of 4,161,085 (up 97%).
Market News
- Rupee weakened to trade at INR 42.19 against the dollar.
- Nymex crude fell to trade at $116.21/bbl. Base metals were trading on a weak note with lead down 7%.
