Market in a nutshell
- Markets opened on a flat note, gained upward momentum during the day, but pared most of the gains before the end of the session. Sensex closed at 15,117 (up 43 points) while Nifty ended the day at 4,524 (up 6 points).
- Nifty August Futures were trading at a premium of around 15-20 points to spot for major part of the session.
- BSE Consumer Durable Index gained 3% to 3,978 with Titan gaining 4% to INR 1,271. BSE Auto Index advanced 1% to 3,967, with Tata Motors up 4% to INR 444.
- Market breadth was almost neutral with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 1.1:1. KPIT climbed 11% to INR 68, while Chennai Petroleum fell 5% to INR 296.
- Cash volumes were at INR 187,480 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 225,150 mn. F&O volumes were at INR 499,176 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 541,311 mn.
Eye Catchers
- Ansal Infrastructure surged 15% to INR 105 with volumes of 10,024,654 (up 610%).
Market News
- Rupee depreciated to trade at INR 42.14 against the dollar.
- Nymex crude was almost stable trading at $120.5/bbl. Base metals were trading on a strong note with lead up 2.5%.
