Market 6th August 2008, Rupee appreciated to trade at INR 42.08 against the dollar & crude was almost stable trading at $119.31/bbl

 Market in a nutshell

  • Buoyed by strong global cues, domestic bourses opened on an exuberant note and sustained at the high levels for major part of the session. However the final hour saw selling pressure which led the indices to pare most of the day’s gains. Sensex finally closed at 15,074 (up 113 points) while Nifty ended the day at 4,518 (up 15 points).
  • Nifty August Futures were trading at a premium of around 10 points to spot for major part of the session.
  • Market breadth was negative with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 3:4. Bajaj Holding advanced 12.5% to INR 422, while Bank Of Baroda fell 6% to INR 281.
  • Cash volumes were at INR 258,188 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 209,688 mn. F&O volumes were at INR 611,800 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 536,039 mn.

Eye Catchers

  • Triveni rose 14% to INR 116 with volumes of 12,705,767 (up 610%).
  • I-Flex fell 7% to INR 1,342 with volumes of 314,462 (up 290%).

Market News

  • Rupee appreciated to trade at INR 42.08 against the dollar, due to stable equity markets and decline in crude oil price.
  • Nymex crude was almost stable trading at $119.31/bbl. Base metals were trading on a mixed note.
  • Hindustan Construction led consortium bagged a contract worth INR 13.98 bn from Andhra Pradesh Government for irrigation projects.
