Market 30th July 2008, Purvankara advanced 12% to INR 202 with volumes of 331,412 (up 4,800%)

 Market in a nutshell

  • Markets opened on a frail note but gathered upward momentum as the session progressed. Noon trades saw the indices break into positive territory and pare yesterday’s losses. Sensex finally closed at 14,287 (up 495 points) while Nifty ended the day at 4,314 (up 123 points).
  • Nifty July Futures were trading at a premium of 10-12 points to spot for major part of the session.
  • On the penultimate day of the July series expiry, rollovers picked up to good levels with market wide rollover at 60% and Nifty rollover at 53%.
  • BSE Bankex and Realty Index both advanced around 5% to 6,523 and 5,042 respectively. Axis Bank surged 10% to INR 680, while Ansal Infrastructure gained 6% to INR 95.
  • Market breadth was positive with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 2.5:1. Punj Lloyd rallied 12% to INR 272, while RNRL gained 11% to INR 100.
  • Cash volumes were at INR 180,881 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 209,311 mn. F&O volumes were at INR 585,439 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 580,092 mn.

Market News

  • Rupee strengthened to trade at INR 42.35 against the dollar, due to falling crude prices and recovering equity markets.
  • Nymex crude declined to trade at $121.69/bbl. Base metals were trading on a mixed note.
