Market 25th July 2008, MRPL gained 16%, while sensex closed down 502 points

 Market in a nutshell

  • Following global markets, local bourses dived on opening, and languished deep in the red as the session continued. Sensex finally closed at 14,275 (down 502 points) while Nifty ended the day at 4,312 (down 122 points).
  • Nifty July Futures were trading at a premium of 10-15 points to spot for major part of the session.
  • BSE Bankex plunged 6% to 6,752, with ICICI Bank tanking 10% to INR 657. BSE Oil and Gas Index retreated 5% to 9,504, with Reliance falling 7% to INR 2,147.
  • Market breadth was negative with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 7:10. Educomp declined 11% to INR 2,988, while ABB fell 8% to INR 834.
  • Cash volumes were at INR 206,089 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 209,784 mn. F&O volumes were at INR 531,635 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 553,956 mn.

  • MRPL gained 16% to INR 67 with volumes of 41,847,261 (up 900%).

Market News

  • Rupee fell to trade at INR 42.35 against the dollar.
  • Nymex crude rose to trade at $126.37/bbl. Base metals were trading on a weak note with zinc down 3.5%.
