Market 24th July 2008, Nagarjuna Fertilizers gained 14%, crude fell further to trade at $125.25/bbl

  Market in a nutshell

  • Continuing with yesterday’s bullish momentum, markets opened on a positive note. However, late morning trades saw the indices lose strength and slowly venture into the red. Selling pressure intensified in the final hour leading the Sensex to finally close at 14,777 (down 165 points) while Nifty ended the day at 4,434 (down 43 points).
  • Nifty July Futures were trading at a premium of 8-10 points to spot for major part of the session.
  • BSE IT and Metal Index both fell around 3% to 3,630 and 12,696 respectively. TCS was down 6.5% to INR 803, while Jindal Steel and Power declined 6% to INR 1,976.
  • Market breadth was negative with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 7:10. RNRL climbed 9% to INR 99, while Tata Power fell 7% to INR 1,048.
  • Cash volumes were high at INR 251,150 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 192,700 mn. F&O volumes were also strong at INR 581,294 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 530,297 mn.

Eye Catchers

  • Nagarjuna Fertilisers gained 14% to INR 39 with volumes of 67,245,223 (up 170%).

Market News

  • Rupee rose to trade at INR 42.1 against the dollar.
  • Nymex crude fell further to trade at $125.25/bbl. Base metals were trading on a strong note with zinc up 4%.
