Market in a nutshell
- Markets opened with a positive gap, and witnessed some amount of volatility due to political uncertainty. However, the indices sustained at the high levels with Sensex finally closing at 14,104 (up 254 points) while Nifty ended the day at 4,240 (up 81 points).
- Nifty July Futures were trading at a premium of 5-10 points to spot for major part of the session.
- Nifty July month options IVs traded above the 55 level throughout the day.
- BSE Power and Metal Index both surged around 4% to 2,513 and 12,233 respectively. Reliance Power advanced 8% to INR 143, while SAIL was up 7% to INR 135.
- Market breadth was positive with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 3:1. United Spirits rallied 16% to INR 1,220, while Maruti fell 9% to INR 588.
- Cash volumes were at INR 186,313 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 161,404 mn. F&O volumes were at INR 541,008 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 465,797 mn.
Eye Catchers
- United Spirits advanced 16% to INR 1,220 with volumes of 1,225,954 (up 630%).
- Maruti declined 9% to INR 590 with volumes of 3,252,958 (up 450%).
Market News
- Rupee was stable trading at INR 42.67 against the dollar.
- Nymex crude fell to trade at $130.79/bbl. Base metals were trading on a strong note with lead up 4%.
