Market 16th July 2008, crude fell to trade at $138.82/bbl, Unitech fell 11% to INR 137

 Market in a nutshell

  • Markets had a volatile session opening positive but witnessing alternate bouts of buying and selling. The last half hour saw selling pressure which led the broader indices to sink further into red with Sensex finally closing at 12,576 (down 100 points) while Nifty ended the day at 3,817 (down 44 points).
  • Nifty July Futures were trading at a discount of 30 points to spot for major part of the session, which reduced to 20 points during the last half hour.
  • BSE Realty Index slipped 6% to 4,219, with Unitech down 11% to INR 137. BSE Auto Index fell 2.5% to 3,395, with Mahindra and Mahindra slipping 5% to INR 494.
  • Market breadth was negative with an Advance: Decline Ratio of 2:5. Ranbaxy gained 15% to INR 471, while DLF declined 8% to INR 393.
  • Cash volumes were at INR 165,901 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 162,322 mn. F&O volumes were at INR 457,383 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 435,845 mn.

Eye Catchers

  • Unitech fell 11% to INR 137 with volumes of 19,247,575 (up 280%).

Market News

  • Rupee was stable trading at INR 43.17 against the dollar.
  • Nymex crude fell to trade at $138.82/bbl. Base metals were trading on a weak note with zinc down 8%.
